FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – A dive team and searchers in boats today resume their search of an Oregon lake for possible other victims after a young boy was pulled unconscious from the lake last evening. KPTV reports that Forest Grove firefighters say a boy believed to be about 4 years old was found face down in Henry Hagg Lake southwest of Portland and could not be revived. Firefighters said as of last night, the child’s parents had not been located.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A Marion County sheriff’s officer says a 64-year-old man escaped unhurt when the cattle feed truck he was driving was hit by an Amtrak train yesterday afternoon at a rail crossing south of Salem. Initially, crews thought the damaged train could continue to Portland. However, The Oregonian reports that Amtrak says mechanical issues halted the train for hours while crews worked on repairs. None of the roughly 280 passengers was hurt.

MONMOUTH, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber is appointing his predecessor, Ted Kulongoski, to the newly created board of trustees for Western Oregon University. Kulongoski, a Democrat, was governor from 2003 to 2011. He’s one of 15 people appointed to the Western Oregon board. Kitzhaber also nominated new governing boards for Eastern Oregon, Southern Oregon, and the Oregon Institute of Technology.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Hundreds of people turned out for the festivities as a mural honoring “The Simpsons” was unveiled in Springfield. On hand for yesterday’s big event was actress Yeardley Smith, the voice of Bart Simpson’s little sister, Lisa, on the animated sitcom. Series creator Matt Groening grew up in Portland.
