Vikings Extend Win Streak to Three

Billy Jones found the endzone three times… twice on runs of 20 and 15 yards and a third time on an 84 yard kickoff return… and the Siuslaw Vikings handed Hidden Valley Mustangs a 49-14 loss Friday night in Florence. Joseph Dotson scampered 68 yards for a touchdown on the Vikings’ second play from scrimmage to set the tone for the evening. Maverick Michael provided the final score of the evening when he returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown. Siuslaw opens the Far West League season on the road Friday in Myrtle Creek against the South Umpqua Lancers.

Sailors win at home

The Mapleton Sailors ran over the McKenzie Eagles at home Friday night, 62-22 in a non-league game. The Sailors open the Mountain West League season Friday in Fall City.

On the cross country course…

Seth Campbell blitzed the course at Lane Community College Saturday at the Northwest Classic with a time of 16:31, finishing nine-seconds ahead of the second place runner. Jack Pickell was 29th for the Vikings and Siuslaw finished fifth as a team in the Varsity 5-thousand meter class.

Celie Mans was second in the girls Varsity race with a time of 19:33; Courtney King was 14th; Kennedy Pendergrass 21st, Mikaela Siegel 22nd, and Sierra Potter was 30th ; the Viking girls were second behind Phoenix.

Turning to the College Gridiron…

Oregon is still firmly ranked number two in the AP College Football polls after a 38-31 victory over Washington State Saturday night in Pullman. Marcus Mariota threw for 329 yards and five touchdowns in the eighth straight victory for the Ducks over the Cougars. The Ducks have this weekend off.

In Corvallis, San Diego State jumped to a 7-nothing lead, but the Beavers quickly bounced back and downed the Aztecs 28-7. Sean Mannion became the highest career passer for Oregon State, surpassing Derek Anderson with 275 yards on the night giving him a total of 11,339 career yards. That also puts him third on the all-time Pac-12 passing list. The Beavers open the conference schedule at USC Saturday.
