Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Supreme Court hears oral arguments today on a lawsuit challenging legislative changes to the state pension system. Gov. John Kitzhaber and the Legislature last year reduced retirees’ annual cost of living increases. Public employees quickly appealed.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber and state Rep. Dennis Richardson are preparing to meet in their final debate just as election workers begin dropping ballots in the mail. Today’s debate is sponsored by KGW-TV and The Oregonian. It comes amid scrutiny of first lady Cylvia Hayes’ consulting work.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber is asking a state commission whether his fiancee is subject to state ethics law and, if so, whether she’s broken the law. The questions follow a Willamette Week report saying that Cylvia Hayes used her role as first lady to advance her consulting business.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Sen. Jeff Merkley and Monica Wehby are facing off tonight in their only debate of the Senate campaign. The contest starts at 7 p.m. at KOBI TV in Medford. The debate represents one of Republican Wehby’s last best chances to score a breakthrough challenging Democrat Merkley’s front-runner status. Mail ballots go out tomorrow for the Nov. 4 election.
