SEATTLE (AP) – A man accused of killing his live-in girlfriend and posting photos of her lifeless body online has been returned to Washington state after he surrendered to an officer in Oregon and waived extradition. Authorities say 33-year-old David Kalac arrived at the county jail in Port Orchard, west of Seattle, late yesterday afternoon.

SHERIDAN, Ore. (AP) – The U.S. Bureau of Prisons says a male inmate severely beaten in October at the federal prison in Sheridan has died. The Oregonian reports that a prison spokesman said 32-year-old Hector Salgado-Valderamma died of injuries inflicted by another prisoner on Oct. 24. The other inmate has not been publicly identified.

LINCOLN CITY, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon sheriff has identified a body found off a hiking trail in the Cascade Head area of the Oregon coast as that of a Lake Oswego man. KATU-TV reports that search crews found the missing man’s body Wednesday. He is identified as 64-year-old Gregory Oldham. Rescue crews think Oldman tried to lower himself onto a ledge with a rope and lost his footing. He fell about 150 feet.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon state agency says it won’t seek a ban on smoking at Oregon beaches. The Parks and Recreation Department got opposition to the proposed rule, and officials say it would be hard to enforce. A spokesman tells the Salem Statesman Journal the department plans an education campaign instead.
