Viking Grappler Impresses in Debut

Siuslaw wrestling standout Ricky Huff is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the week. The Viking Freshman pinned his way through the 103-pound bracket at last week’s 21-team Springfield Invitational claiming the weight-class championship in his first-ever varsity wrestling competition.

Honorable Mention… Destinie Tatum led the Lady Vikings in scoring on the court last week, putting up 16 points against Astoria, then scoring 20 points against Elmira.

Payton with a triple-double

On the court last night… Gary Payton II had Oregon State’s first triple-double in 26 years last night as the Beavers cruised past Grambling State 71-43 in Corvallis.

The junior college transfer had ten points, 12 rebounds and ten assists. He added six steals to the deal.

The last, and only other Oregon State player to score a triple-double… Payton’s Father… former All-American and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Gary Payton did the same against Portland November 26th, 1988.

The Beavers will host DePaul Thursday evening. Oregon will take on Cal-State Northridge tomorrow night.
