Mariota Named AP College Player of the Year

Like waves on Waikiki beach the awards keep rolling in for Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.

The Heisman Trophy winner was named the Associated Press college football player of the year this week.

In true Mariota fashion, he didn’t just win it… he owned it… receiving 49 of the 54 first place votes submitted by the AP Top 25 media panel.

Alabama receiver Amari Cooper had three of the other votes; Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston each received one.

Mariota and the Ducks will face Winston and Florida State one week from tomorrow in the Rose Bowl. The winner of that game will play either Ohio State or Alabama January 12th for the National Championship.
