PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a man was found dead early today in a water feature outside a condo building in Portland’s Pearl District. The man has been preliminarily identified as a 19-year-old. He was dressed as though he had been living outdoors.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber and his fiancee, Cylvia Hayes, have hired lawyers as they face scrutiny over Hayes’ consulting work. The governor’s office says Kitzhaber, Hayes and the governor’s office have not been contacted by law enforcement agencies. Willamette Week reported last week that the FBI is investigating Hayes, citing unidentified sources.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Department of Transportation plans to fire noise cannons again this winter in an attempt to prevent thousands of starlings from roosting on the Interstate 5 Columbia River bridge in Portland. The Oregonian reports the cannon will fire in a random schedule to keep the birds from becoming accustomed to the noise and its location.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The U.S. senators from Ohio and Oregon have settled their friendly bet on college football’s championship, with Oregon’s senators showing support for the winning Ohio State Buckeyes on the U.S. Capitol steps. Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley of Oregon joined Sens. Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman of Ohio yesterday in spelling out “O-H-I-O” with their arms to settle up.
