ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Some Oregon businesses say slowdowns resulting from a labor dispute at West Coast ports are affecting their operations coming and going. Jeff Tobin of Mazama Brewing in Corvallis says a shipment of his ale from Tacoma took a month to get to Japan instead of the usual 10 to 12 days. Dockworkers and their employers are negotiating a new contract, and bargaining table tensions have spilled over to the waterfront.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber is fighting back after a week of silence about influence-peddling allegations against his fiancée, Cylvia Hayes. In a letter to Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum, the Democratic governor maintains that he and Hayes have done nothing wrong. Rosenblum last week called the allegations very serious and troubling. A series of newspaper reports since October have showed Hayes did paid consulting work for advocacy groups seeking to influence state government.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – The storms pummeling Oregon in recent days apparently claimed a life in Southern Oregon. Josephine County sheriff’s deputies report the body of 65-year-old Dorvin Russell was found Saturday snagged in tree branches along Grave Creek in the Sunny Valley area. It took several hours for a swift-water rescue team, divers and a ropes team to recover the body.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Police say family members thought a 4-year-old Gresham boy was going to his bedroom for a toy when instead he walked into his grandfather’s bedroom, took a 9 mm handgun off the top of a gun safe, and fired a round that took off part of his right index finger.
