South Umpqua comes out on top
Far West League baseball got underway on the road yesterday for the Siuslaw Vikings who came away from South Umpqua High School with a 13-3 loss. Scott Gordon, Brad Snow, Kenneth Thrall and Trey Cornish teamed up for the Vikings’ four hits.
Viking softball suffered a similar fate at South Umpqua, losing to the Lancers 12-1.
On the track, the Siuslaw girls outdistanced four other Far West League teams to claim the team title in a five-way meet at Marshfield High School. The boys were second behind North Bend.
Carissa Oliver was a double winner for the girls, taking the discus and the shot put. Other individual winners included Hannahleah Jacobsen, Kennedy Pendergrass, Celie Mans, Courtney King, Mikaela Siegel and Abby Watkins. The four-by-400 relay team of Pendergrass, Destinie Tatum, Stevie Miller and Magdalena Akeson also finished first.
Winners for the boys included Josh Payne in the wheel chair 200 and 400; Joe Dotson won the 400 and the javelin. Jack Pickell (pih-KELL) won the 15-hundred and Billy Jones claimed the Long Jump.
College Baseball
Oregon State and Portland were rained out on the college diamond yesterday. That game has been rescheduled for May 13th. The Oregon Ducks will face the Pilots today in Portland.
