SALEM, Ore. (AP) – With national attention focused on the use of force by police, the Oregon Legislature is looking to create parameters for recording video of interactions between officers and the public. One bill would require police departments that use cameras worn by officers to come up with a policy for retaining and dispersing videos. It would allow law-enforcement agencies to keep videos secret unless ordered to release them by a judge. The other bill would make it clear that citizens have a right to videotape police activity as long as they don’t interfere.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police in Portland say a 19-year-old man has been injured in a shooting along the waterfront. Sgt. Pete Simpson says officers found the victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital. Investigators learned the victim had been involved in a dispute with the shooter. Police later arrested a 20-year-old man.

GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. (AP) – The damage estimate from last month’s fire that destroyed a condominium complex in Government Camp has been set at nearly $11 million. A Fire Marshal tells The Oregonian newspaper that he and investigators from several insurance companies are still trying to determine what started the three-alarm fire.

MILWAUKIE, Ore. (AP) – Three Oregon firefighters who decided they couldn’t wait for a water rescue team jumped into the chilly Willamette River in a Portland suburb to rescue a woman in the middle of the current. The Oregonian reports the trio brought a life jacket and rope to the woman early yesterday and safely towed her back to shore in Milwaukie. She was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
