Three Rivers Sandblasters pick up first league victory

A four run rally in the top of the ninth inning last night propelled the Three Rivers Sandblasters to a 6-5 win over the Corvallis Builders. Zach Inskeep’s RBI double tied the game at five-all; then Inskeep scored on a Jonathon Bennison double for the final margin.

The Builders made a play to retake the lead in the bottom of the ninth with two runners on and one out. But Matt Engholm worked his way out of the jam for the win in relief.

The two teams continue their three game series this afternoon with two games in Florence beginning at 2:00.

OSAA adopts football head injury prevention plan

A program aimed at preventing and minimizing head injuries to prep football players will be implemented in Oregon. The Oregon School Activities association is the first statewide prep sports group in the country to require all coaches enroll in the USA Football Heads Up program.

Enrollment is recommended for the 2015 season. That will become a requirement for 2016.

The OSAA also led the nation in 2008 becoming the first prep sports organization to implement tougher concussion and head-injury prevention rules.
