GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Trail camera photos confirm that Oregon’s famous wandering wolf, OR-7, has fathered at least two new pups. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist John Stephenson said Thursday that brings to seven the number of wolves in the Rogue pack, which lives on the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest in the Cascades of southwestern Oregon. That includes three pups from last year.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) – A barge carrying thousands of bags of marine debris that washed up on Alaska shores, some presumably from the 2011 tsunami in Japan, has arrived in Seattle, where recyclable material will be sorted out. Janna Stewart, with Alaska’s Department of Environmental Conservation, says the barge arrived Thursday. Stewart says the logistically difficult, weeks-long debris-removal effort went rather smoothly.

HUNTINGTON, Ore. (AP) – The Bureau of Land Management says Interstate 84 acted as a fire break to prevent the spread of a wildfire to the Eastern Oregon city of Huntington. The BLM says strong winds pushed the fire to the edge of the freeway, about two miles from town. The fire burned 19 square miles, but Huntington is no longer threatened.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem canceled visiting hours this morning after a small fire at a furniture factory within the maximum-security prison. The Corrections Department says there were no injuries and visiting hours resumed in the afternoon. Damage was contained to the furniture factory.
