SEATTLE (AP) – Chris Davis hit a go-ahead single and his 30th home run, and the Baltimore Orioles pulled within two games of the second wild-card spot in the American League with a 3-2 win over the Seattle Mariners last night. Adam Jones launched his 18th homer in the first inning off Seattle starter Vidal Nuno (0-1) and scored on Davis’ base hit in the fourth.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Samantha Wagner and Jennifer Hahn shot 4-under 68 yesterday in the U.S. Women’s Amateur at Portland Golf Club to share the first-round lead in stroke-play qualifying. The top 64 after the second round today will advance to match play.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon running back Thomas Tyner is out for fall camp and he could miss the season after shoulder surgery. Coach Mark Helfrich confirmed that Tyner would not take part in fall camp, which opened yesterday. Oregon does not announce injuries as a policy. But players confirmed that Tyner had surgery on his left shoulder and his return this season was doubtful.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – The Arena Football League has folded franchises in Las Vegas and New Orleans. A league announcement says the Las Vegas Outlaws and New Orleans VooDoo organizations had ceased operations immediately. The decision leaves the league with 10 teams. The league board moved the 5-13-0 Portland Thunder into the playoffs against the 17-1-0 San Jose Sabercats on Friday.
