SEATTLE (AP) – Adrian Beltre lined a two-run, bases-loaded single in the sixth inning and Yovani Gallardo pitched into the sixth as the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners 3-0 yesterday. Texas picked up a game on AL West-leading Houston, which lost to Oakland 10-9. The Astros lead the Rangers by 2 games.

PHOENIX (AP) – Patrick Corbin threw six scoreless innings, Phil Gosselin and A.J. Pollock homered and the Arizona Diamondbacks snapped a four-game losing streak by beating the fading San Francisco Giants 6-1 yesterday. San Francisco has lost eight of 10 to fall nine games behind the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) – Chris Laviano has been selected to be Rutgers starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Washington State. Coach Kyle Flood announced the decision yesterday, choosing Laviano over Hayden Rettig. Rettig started the season opener against Norfolk State because Laviano was suspended because of a curfew violation.

UNDATED (AP) – The Seattle Sounders will travel to Northern California to face off against the San Jose Earthquakes this weekend. The Sounders are coming off a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC.
