Mapleton loses third straight
The Mapleton Sailors won the first game last night, 27-25, but the Siletz Valley Warriors came back and swept the next three games for a 3-1 Mountain West League volleyball win in Siletz. The Sailors continue their extended road trip tomorrow in Alsea.

Viking girls ranked #2; boys #5
The prep cross country season gets underway for the Siuslaw Vikings this afternoon at Tugman State Park in Lakeside. It’s the Far West League Preview meet and it will feature the two top-ranked girls’ teams in the 4A. North Bend is number one in the first poll of the season, the Lady Vikings are number two, followed by Phoenix, Molalla and Philomath. Valley Catholic leads the boys rankings followed by Phoenix, Tillamook, Philomath and Siuslaw in fifth.
