PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland jury has awarded more than $3 million to a nurse, saying she was wrongfully terminated by Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center for complaining about cost-cutting measures. The Oregonian reports registered nurse Linda Boly told management that rushing through patients was jeopardizing their care. A Legacy spokeswoman says Legacy doesn’t agree with the verdict.
SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) – A Seaside man who stole from more than a 100 businesses and residents in Clatsop County has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. The Daily Astorian reports Loren Tarabochia has a lengthy criminal history of theft and burglary dating back more than a decade.
LAFAYETTE, Ore. (AP) – Deputies in Oregon say a man badly injured two female relatives when he attacked them with nunchucks. The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office says it arrested 28-year-old Kasey Heermann for investigation of attempted murder and assault in Lafayette, about 35 miles southwest of Portland. Heermann is being held on $465,000 bail.
BEND, Ore. (AP) – The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office says two hikers are safe after getting lost and spending an unexpected night on South Sister. The sheriff’s search and rescue unit received an emergency call Saturday night from 22-year-old Mohammed Alnemer, who reported he and 19-year-old Ananiya Demessie had become lost while descending the peak. Because of the darkness and steep terrain, rescue crews couldn’t head out until yesterday morning. They declined medical attention.
