PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A judge has denied bail for a man charged with murder in the 1988 death of a 25-year-old woman in Portland. KPTV-TV reports the judge’s decision will keep 60-year-old Walter Howard jailed in Multnomah County. Howard was arrested in San Diego last year by cold case detectives who tied him to the killing of Renee Harvey.

RAINIER, Ore. (AP) – A commercial breeder in Rainier who owned more than 140 animals has been fined $172,000 for animal neglect. KGW-TV reports the Oregon Humane Society worked with local authorities in 2013 to rescue 118 dogs, 21 horses and a cat from the property owned by Catherine Setere. She has also been banned from owning animals of any kind for three years.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Salem Chamber Orchestra has cancelled the remaining concerts of its 2015-2016 season. Interim executive director Teresa Cox tells the Statesman Journal that a drop in donations and ticket sales has resulted in an estimated budget shortfall of $100,000. It’s unclear whether the 258 season ticket holders will be reimbursed, but Cox says the board is working on the matter.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Blake Griffin scored 22 points and Paul Pierce had 19 as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 115-109 in the preseason finale for both teams last night. Damian Lillard started hot with 14 points, six assists and four rebounds in the first nine minutes. He finished with 39 points. Portland begins the regular season hosting New Orleans on Wednesday.
