PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gov. Kate Brown has announced a leadership change and independent review of the Oregon Department of Human Services. The Oregonian reports the move yesterday was hours after a Willamette Week story saying agency officials knew about alleged problems with a Portland foster care provider but continued to place children there. Two weeks ago, the Oregon Department of Justice filed a lawsuit accusing the provider called Give Us This Day of misspending at least $2 million in state funds.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A central member of an eastern Oregon white supremacist gang has accepted a plea deal in connection with a murder plot and other crimes. The East Oregonian reports that Warren Browning pleaded guilty to racketeering, attempted assault and felon in possession of a firearm. He is scheduled for sentencing Nov. 20. Prosecutors say Browning is a member of the United Aryan Empire.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities have charged a man with murder in connection to the July shooting death of a 19-year-old in Portland. KPTV-TV reports police say Deandrea Sanders was already in jail on unrelated charges when he was charged with murder in the death of Anthony Jackson Jr. at an apartment complex.

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – The family of a woman who jumped from the Astoria Bridge plans to sue Clatsop County, claiming her suicide could have been prevented. The Daily Astorian reports an attorney for the family of Carrie Banhart filed a claim notice in October. Banhart committed suicide in April, a week after police pulled her from the bridge and took her to a hospital where she was evaluated and released.
