DENVER (AP) – J.J. Hickson scored 19 points and rookie Emmanuel Mudiay hit two game-sealing free throws with 18.3 seconds remaining, helping the Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 108-104 last night. Mudiay finished with 18 points and Kenneth Faried added 17 – and drew a key late charge – as the Nuggets ended an eight-game skid to the Trail Blazers.

UNDATED (AP) — Seniors Kyle Wiltjer of Gonzaga, Georges Niang of Iowa State and Buddy Hield of Oklahoma have been selected to The Associated Press preseason All-American team. Junior Kris Dunn of Providence and freshman Ben Simmons of LSU round out the team released yesterday. This is the third straight preseason All-America team to have a freshman on it.

NEW YORK (AP) – Ken Griffey Jr. and Trevor Hoffman are among 15 newcomers on this year’s Hall of Fame ballot and will face a newly trimmed electorate along with steroid-tainted holdovers Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. David Eckstein, Troy Glaus, Mike Hampton, Mike Lowell and Billy Wagner also are among the players eligible for the first time on the 32-man ballot announced Monday.

UNDATED (AP) — The Vancouver Canucks will travel to Ohio to face off against the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight in the Nationwide Arena. The Canucks have lost their last three games, most recently with a 4-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday.
