Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland has been a magnet for young, creative adults for over a decade, but the city’s popularity means those who helped make it cool can’t afford to live there anymore. A wave of evictions and skyrocketing rents are putting apartments out of reach of many, including those working part-time, low wage or artistic jobs. A Portland tenants’ group says Portland’s vacancy rate, about 3 percent, is one of the lowest in the country. The hot market has led some rents to double or triple.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A University of Oregon student is facing charges that he made anti-Semitic comments to a man outside a Jewish fraternity. The Register Guard reports Damien Leon Ramirez is charged with second-degree intimidation in connection with the Oct. 30 incident near the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.

GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Residents in parts of Gresham say they received invitations to join the Ku Klux Klan on their doorsteps last week. Oregon Public Broadcasting reports that the invitations came with a plastic bag filled with root-beer flavored jelly beans. They included a list of the group’s goals, its website and the address of its national headquarters.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Whole Foods is delaying the opening of a new grocery store in Eugene while archeologists remove possible historic artifacts found during excavation. The Register Guard reports that the store had been scheduled to open in March, but now isn’t expected to open until next fall.
