SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners have added former Cleveland and Washington manager Manny Acta to their coaching staff as third base coach. First-time manager Scott Servais will have two coaches on his staff with managerial experience in Acta and bench coach Tim Bogar, who was the interim manager with Texas in 2014. Acta has been an analyst with ESPN the past two years while also serving as general manager of Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Winter League.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — It’s unclear if heralded forward Domantas Sabonis will be able to play when No. 9 Gonzaga opens its season Friday against Pittsburgh in the Armed Forces Classic in Okinawa, Japan. Sabonis took a hard fall on his lower back last weekend during an exhibition game against Eastern Oregon and remains sore. The Spokesman-Review reported his status for the Pitt game will be determined later in the week.

MIAMI (AP) — Chris Bosh scored a season-high 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Hassan Whiteside had 19 points and 15 rebounds, and the Miami Heat topped the Los Angeles Lakers 101-88 last night. Nick Young led Los Angeles with 17 points.

UNDATED (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers will host the San Antonio Spurs at Moda Center tonight. The Trail Blazers are coming off a 108-104 loss to the Denver Nuggets.
