PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Jimmy Butler scored 22 points, Derrick Rose added 17 in his return to the lineup and the Chicago Bulls held off the Portland Trail Blazers 93-88 last night. Rose had missed two games with a left ankle injury. His floating jumper stretched Chicago’s lead to 78-65 early in the fourth quarter, but Portland rallied within 78-76 on Ed Davis’ tip shot.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) – Conor Clifford led a balanced Washington State offense with 18 points as the Cougars rolled to a 74-57 win over Cal State-Los Angeles last night. Que Johnson added 15 points for the Cougars (3-0) at Beasley Coliseum. WSU played without leading scorer and rebounder Josh Hawkinson, who sat out with a groin injury.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Alec Peters scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Valparaiso beat Oregon State 63-57 last night. Shane Hammink and Tevonn Walker added 15 points apiece for Valparaiso (6-1). Gary Payton II had 25 points, 11 rebounds and three steals for Oregon State (4-1).

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – D’Marques Tyson made six 3-pointers and scored 20 points, leading four bench players in double figures as Portland rolled to a 97-65 win over Alcorn State last night. Portland (3-2) made 15 of 31 3-point attempts and 36 of 66 (55 percent) overall. The Pilots had 11 makes on 20 3-pointers by halftime en route to a 58-33 lead and their second straight win by 30-plus points.
