BIGGS JUNCTION, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say they have arrested a suspect following a standoff with members of a SWAT team along Highway 97 near Biggs Junction. KPTV-TV reports Dean Bromley of The Dalles was arrested yesterday after a State Police sergeant checked on Bromley who was parked in a stolen van. Police say Bromley refused to come out, so additional troopers and deputies responded to the scene as well as a police SWAT team which used chemical agents to get Bromley out of the vehicle.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The Jackson County Board of Commissioners is opposing a Crater Lake wilderness proposal. The Mail Tribune reports that commissioners voted yesterday to proclaim their opposition to the proposed Crater Lake Wilderness Area, which would include Crater Lake National Park and surrounding federal lands. They cite increased wildfire risk and a wilderness area ban on the use of motorized vehicles.

PILOT ROCK, Ore. (AP) – The small city of Pilot Rock has become the latest city in Umatilla County to ban marijuana businesses. The East Oregonian reports that the Pilot Rock now joins Athena, Weston, Stanfield, Umatilla and Ukiah in banning marijuana businesses.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Drew Eubanks had 17 points and nine rebounds as Oregon State beat Loyola Marymount 79-70 last night as the Beavers rebounded from their only loss of the season. The game was back and forth with seven ties, nine lead changes and neither team leading by more than six until late. The Lions had won three straight.
