featureAthlete of the Week

Siuslaw Basketball standout Destinie Tatum is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week. The junior guard scored 19 points and pulled down 20 rebounds in the Lady Vikings’ loss last week to Cottage Grove. Honorable Mention goes to Taylor Dotson. She led scoring for the Vikings with six points and six rebounds in a loss to Philomath. The Warriors downed Siuslaw 39-21 yesterday in the opening round of the Philomath Tournament. The Vikings will face Hidden Valley Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in their second and final game.

The Viking Boys had been scheduled to host Sweet Home yesterday in Florence, but transportation concerns caused by yesterday’s wind storm prompted cancellation.

Prep wrestling

On the mats, Siuslaw wrestled in five different dual meets yesterday at the Bay City Duals at Marshfield High School. Four Vikings went undefeated on the day, each winning five matches. Murray Bingham trailed 17-3 headed into the third round of one of his matches and turned it into a pin victory for one of his wins at 132. Richard Huff won at 113; Andrew Tupua at 160 and Scott Simmons at 145.

On the college basketball court…

The Oregon men battled back from an ugly first half yesterday in Birmingham, Alabama for a 72-68 win over the Crimson Tide.

In Corvallis, Tres Tinkle scored 23 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had three steals for the Beavers as OSU defeated Quinnipiac 82-61.
