BURNS, Ore. (AP) – A county judge has cancelled a community meeting over the armed standoff at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Harney County Judge Steve Grasty says he cancelled the meeting scheduled for today at a senior center because authorities learned that protesters planned to block the entrance to the building.

MILWAUKEE (AP) – A former Wisconsin police officer goes to trial this week in the death of a 19-year-old woman from Cottage Grove, Oregon. Steven Zelich (ZEHL’-ich) is accused of killing Jenny Gamez and dumping her body in a suitcase along a highway. He is also charged in the similar death of a Minnesota woman. He claimed their deaths were accidental.

COUGAR, Wash. (AP) – A man arrested in a home-invasion robbery and carjacking in Cougar, Washington, is a suspect in an Oregon murder. Police say 36-year-old Matthew Reyes is wanted in the death of 57-year-old Rick Aston, who was found dead with his throat cut at a Klamath Falls motel earlier this month.

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – Residents of Southern Oregon stocked up on singed antiques as part of a fundraiser to rebuild a historic grist mill that burned in a holiday fire. The Mail Tribune in Medford reports that scores of people attended a tent fundraiser Saturday to support rebuilding efforts for the Butte Creek Mill.
