featureSiuslaw wrestlers wrap up regular season in Cottage Grove

Three Siuslaw Vikings “placed” at the Cottage Grove Invitational Wrestling tournament over the weekend. Andrew Tupua took third at 152 pounds; Richard Huff was fourth at 113 and Dylan Jennings was also fourth; he at 220.  Siuslaw finished 14th out of a field of 32 teams.

The girls’ regional wrestling tournament was also held at Cottage Grove over the weekend. Siuslaw junior Asa Abbas (ABB-uss) finished in the top 10 at 120 pounds, but did not qualify for state.

Viking wrestlers are now preparing for the Far West-Skyline regionals at Henley High School in Klamath Falls February 18th and 19th.

Prep basketball Friday…

Mohawk downed the Mapleton Sailor girls 32-24 in Marcola. The Indians edged the Mapleton boys 54-49 in the nightcap.

On the college basketball court

Gary Payton II had 17 points with seven steals and Oregon State held off Colorado 60-56 Saturday night in Corvallis. For the second game in a row it came down to free throws as the Beavers sank six from the line in the final 28 seconds to ice the win.

Dillon Brooks scored 30 points and had nine assists… both career highs… as number 16 Oregon powered their way to a 70-66 win over Utah yesterday afternoon in Eugene.
