NORTH BEND, Ore. (AP) – A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued three surfers in distress near Devil’s Punchbowl State Park. Lincoln County 911 dispatchers received a call at 1:40 p.m. Saturday reporting that a surfer was in trouble. Dolphin helicopter co-pilot Lt. Matthew Poore says two other surfers tried to reach that surfer but they exhausted themselves. Poore says when the Coast Guard arrived, they picked up two surfers near the rocks and brought them to safety. They returned to find a third surfer who was unable to get himself away from the rock so they hoisted him out of the water.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – The Deschutes County district attorney has launched an online portal that will allow the public to have access to files related to his review of cases worked on by a former crime lab analyst. KTVZ-TV reports that District Attorney John Hummel announced his plan on Friday. Former Oregon State Police crime lab analyst Nika Larsen is under investigation for possible involvement in tampering with drug evidence. Hummel says transparency should be the hallmark of the justice system.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Grief counselors will be on hand Monday at Silverton High School and Bethany Charter School to help students and faculty in the wake of a fatal car crash near Molalla. The Statesman Journal reports that Douglas Bonham, a fifth- and sixth-grade teacher at Bethany, and Matthew Albrecht, a junior at Silverton High School, were killed in the single-vehicle crash. The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called just after 7 p.m. on Friday to a crash involving a Honda Accord. Officials arrived at the scene and found both occupants of the vehicle dead.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – A 30-year-old man is suspected of bringing a gun to a pub about an hour north of Bend where shots were fired and a woman was struck by bullets. The Madras Police Department released a statement saying Foreman got into a fight and left the Madras Pub & Deli before returning early Saturday with a gun.
