LAS VEGAS (AP) – Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy wants to ask a federal judge today to release him from jail pending trial on charges stemming from an armed standoff against federal agents two years ago. Prosecutors say Bundy already had a detention hearing in Oregon and isn’t entitled to another one in Las Vegas. Cliven Bundy and four of his adult sons are among 19 people facing charges that they organized an armed standoff that stopped federal agents from rounding up cattle from public land near Bundy’s ranch.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – A Pendleton man struck and injured by an Oregon State Police vehicle after allegedly shooting at troopers and leading them on a high-speed chase is facing charges of attempted aggravated murder. The East Oregonian reports Bryan Corona was taken to the Umatilla County Jail Monday after being hospitalized because of the Jan. 2 incident.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – Police say a Springfield man has been arrested for driving off with his neighbor’s cat and then shooting and killing the animal. The Register-Guard reports that 50-year-old Tim Bigelow was arrested Tuesday after police responded to a report from Stacey Fay that her neighbor had drove off with her cat and came back later saying that he had killed the animal. Fay says that Bigelow told her he was tired of the cat killing his chickens.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – A Benton County lumber company is closing after 42 years in business. Mary’s River Lumber Co. had 80 workers at a cedar saw mill in Philomath and a finishing plant in Corvallis. Company president Brad Kirkbride tells the Corvallis Gazette-Times the business has had a tough time finding suitable cedar logs.
