Oliver places top five in varsity discus

Carissa Oliver recorded personal best throws in the high school varsity divisions of the Discus and Shot Put at the weekend’s Oregon Relays at Hayward Field in Eugene.  Oliver was 5th in the discus with a toss of 124’11”.  She was 11th in the shot at 36’ 8.25”.  More than a dozen Siuslaw athletes qualified and competed at the two day event.

On the softball diamond…

The Douglas Trojans swept both halves of a Far West League double header in Florence Friday, downing Siuslaw 4-nothing and 7-nothing.  Saturday, in a rain-makeup, the Vikings held off Brookings-Harbor 12-11.  Taylor Dotson was 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, two RBI and three runs scored.

Prep baseball…

Siuslaw and Douglas split a pair of Far West League games in Winston Friday.  Michael Mason started things off with a three-run homer in the first inning of game one to pace the Vikings to an eight-run shutout victory.  The Trojans bounced back with a six run shutout win over Siuslaw in the nightcap.

On the college diamond…

Washington State shocked 7th ranked Oregon State by taking the final two games of a three game series in Pullman Friday and Saturday.  A grand slam home run off reliever Jordan Brytton in the seventh inning gave the Cougars the lead Friday night and a 7-5 win.  The Cougs came out on top 8-3 Saturday afternoon.

Oregon swept the USC Trojans in all three Pac-12 games over the weekend, winning 4-3; 12-8; and 8-5.

Oregon and Oregon State will meet at PK Park in Eugene this afternoon for a non-league game.  That will air on KCFM at six.  The pregame show is at 5:30.
