The Oregon Women were so close Sunday, but when it came down to it the Bruins put together a shocker nonetheless. The Bruins scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, and then walked-off in the ninth for a 2-1 win over the Ducks in Game 2 of the Super Regional, and then won the series later in the evening, knocking off Oregon ace Cheridan Hawkins in a 2-1 win. It’s the second time in four years that Oregon’s season has ended in the Super Regional round.
The Oregon State baseball team ended the 2016 regular season with some history on Sunday. Luke Heimlich tossed a complete-game shutout to help the Beavers defeat UCLA, 6-0, in the regular season finale at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field. The Beavers, shut out the Bruins in all three games of the series. Oregon State, which has been playing baseball since 1907, had never shut out the same team for three straight games.
Oregon got another good start from Cole Irvin, but the Ducks’ offense struggled scoring just one run on three hits as Stanford won game one of the Pac-12 series, 2-1, on Thursday night at Sunken Diamond.
Friday Oregon had the tying run on base in the eighth inning but couldn’t get the big hit as Stanford held on to clinch the series with a 4-2 win on Friday night at Sunken Diamond.
Saturday Oregon couldn’t overcome back-to-back Stanford home runs in the seventh inning as the Cardinal won, 2-1, and completed the three-game sweep in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
