Emeralds open at home Friday

The Eugene Emeralds are gearing up for the start of the 2016 minor league “short season” this week.  The Ems recently signed a two-year player development contract extension with the Chicago Cubs that will take them through the 2018 season.

Most of the players on the 29-man roster have already begun reporting to Eugene this week, including six pitchers and five position players from last season.  Additional players picked up by Chicago in last week’s Major League Baseball draft are expected to begin their professional careers at PK Park in Eugene.   That’s also where the Ems will open their schedule against the Boise Hawks Friday night.

Beaver baseballer on national team

Oregon State sophomore infielder K.J. Harrison has accepted an invitation to play with the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team again this summer.  Harrison appeared in 17 games with the national team last season, collecting ten hits.  He is only the second Beaver Baseball standout to repeat on the Collegiate National Team… following Michael Conforto.
