Vikings fall in football opener

Jared Brandt completed 23 of 31 passes, one of those an 80-yard connection with Trent Reavis for a touchdown, but the Elmira Falcons held off the Vikings 35-14 Friday night.  Quincy Rusk had 16 carries for 54 yards and one touchdown in the opening game.  Siuslaw will travel to Pleasant Hill Friday night.

Sailors flash past the Redsides

The Sailors romped to a 68-14 nonleague victory over South Wasco County in Mapleton Saturday afternoon.

Duck football posts fifth straight season opening victory

Dakota Prukop threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns and the number 24 ranked Oregon Ducks overcame a shaky start to defeat UC Davis 53-28 Saturday afternoon.  Royce Freeman carried for 87 yards and two scores for the Ducks who have now won five straight season openers.  Oregon will host Virginia Saturday night in Eugene.

Minor League Baseball winding down

The Eugene Emeralds finished off a five game home series Friday night with a 9-3 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils, then lost two in a row to the Hops in Hillsboro over the weekend.  The Hops came out on top one-nothing, and 6-7.  The two teams meet again this evening in Hillsboro.
