Emeralds one win away from reaching NWL championship

Pedro Silverio threw five scoreless innings and struck out eight as the Eugene Emeralds powered their way to a 6-2 victory over the Hillsboro Hops last night at PK Park.

The win evened the South Division playoff at one game apiece.  The Hops and the Ems meet this evening in Eugene for the final… the winner of tonight’s game will face either Spokane or Everett beginning Sunday for the Northwest League Championship.

Prep Volleyball

On the prep court last night… Pleasant Hill downed the Siuslaw Vikings in Florence 1-3 for a non-league volleyball victory.  The Lady Vikings will be in Canby for tournament play tomorrow.

The Mapleton Sailors swept Alsea in three straight sets yesterday afternoon.  The Sailors will be in Triangle Lake for a pair of Mountain West League matches Saturday… one each against the Lakers and Mohawk.

Prep football today…

The Mapleton Sailors will be in Elkton for a nonleague 8-man game against the Elks.  That game will be the first half of a prep double-header on Coast Radio Sports today… the pregame show is at 3:45… kickoff at four.

Then, at 6:45, the Siuslaw Viking pregame show goes on the air as the Vikings and Pleasant Hill kick off at seven.

Student killed in crash to be remembered during game

The Billies lost a student Tuesday night in a car crash.  17-year old Jordan Jeffs was killed.  In addition to attending Pleasant Hill, he also was on the Billies football team.

They’ll hold a brief recognition and balloon release on the field prior to the game, a candlelight vigil will be held immediately following.   Pleasant Hill principal and football coach Randy Fisher said his players will also be wearing a special sticker on their helmets to honor the memory of Jeffs.  Viking players will also be wearing that same number 21 on their helmets.

College football tomorrow…

Oregon State is off… they’ll be at home next week. The Oregon Ducks will host the Virginia Cavaliers tomorrow night… the first ever ACC foe to play at Autzen Stadium.  The pregame show on 106.9 FM is at six… kickoff is at 7:30.
