Mapleton Football standout Hunter Simington is Coast Radio Sports’ Athlete of the Week.  The senior quarterback ran for six touchdowns and threw for one more in the Sailors’ 50-46 victory over Siletz Valley.  Simington had 18 carries for 301 yards on offense, plus accounted for 23 tackles on defense.

Honorable mention is given to Josi Hays, the Mapleton senior accounted for six kills on 20 attacks, eight digs, three blocks and a pair of aces in the Sailor’s final volleyball match of the season.

Far West Volleyball Playoff

The Siuslaw Viking Volleyball squad will be at North Bend High School this evening at seven for a league playoff against the Douglas Trojans.  Douglas beat Marshfield last night in four sets to force a tie atop the Far West League standings.  The winner of this evening’s match will be the #1 seed from the Far West League and will host a first round playoff October 29th.  The loser will be #2 seed and will host a “play-in” match next Tuesday.
