Mapleton splits with Falls City

The Mapleton girls lost to Falls City-Kings Valley 27-21 Friday night in non-league play.  The Sailors came out on top 41-29 in the boys’ game.

On the mats Saturday…

Siuslaw was at the Sutherlin Invitational where the Vikings placed three wrestlers in the top three of their weight classes.  Richard Huff swept the 120-pound weight class once again… pinning all three of his opponents… and claiming the title with a 41-second victory.  Scott Simmons was third at 145 pounds, pinning his first three opponents before losing in the semi-finals… he then won by rule in the 3rd place match.  Kainan Lane was also third, he in the 285 pound class.  Lane lost his initial match, putting him into the consolation bracket where we pinned four straight opponents.

Turning to college basketball…

The Oregon men broke a century old record with their 16th consecutive win Saturday at home over Stanford.  Chris Bouche (boo-SHAY) had 16 points and ten rebounds, Dylan Ennis scored 15 and the Ducks beat Stanford 69-52.  The previous record of 15 straight wins was set in 1913… the win was also Oregon’s 38th straight at home… a record that extends back to January 2015.

Winning has been a tough task for the Oregon State Beavers on the court this season… the Beavers fell for the seventh straight game Saturday night at home, losing 69-58 to the California Golden Bears.
