Prep wrestling…
Richard Huff has dropped down to 113 pounds and continued his winning ways, claiming the championship at that weight class at the Cottage Grove Wrestling Invitational. He opened competition in his first match, winning by fall in 11 seconds. He won two decisions, 9-3 and 9-6, then claimed victory in the championship by fall again, this time in 54 seconds. Riley Jennings was the only other Viking to place at the tournament. He finished fifth at 152 pounds.
At the girls regional finals Saturday at Thurston High School, Siuslaw’s Eyza Abbas won her first three matches at her weight class to make it to the semi-finals, but lost her final three matches to finish sixth out of the 30 wrestlers in her division. Only the top four finishers in each weight class advance to the state finals.
Prep basketball…
The South Umpqua Lancers picked up their first girls basketball win of the season Friday night, 51-37 over the Siuslaw Lady Vikings. Douglas beat North Bend 60-36 and Marshfield defeated Brookings-Harbor 46-29. That moves the Lady Pirates and the Trojans into a tie for the lead with matching 5-1 records. At 1-and-5, Siuslaw and South Umpqua are tied at fifth.

For the boys
Siuslaw outscored the Lancers 23-12 in the final quarter, including the last 12-points of the game, but it wasn’t enough as the Vikings fell 62-51. Brookings-Harbor beat Marshfield 47-30; North Bend beat Douglas 62-47. The Bulldogs are 6-and-oh on top of the league standings. Siuslaw, Douglas and Marshfield are all in second place with matching 3-and-3 records. Brookings is 2-and-4; South Umpqua is one-and-five. The Vikings will host Marshfield tomorrow night.

The Mapleton Sailors fell to Perrydale in a pair of non-league games Saturday afternoon. The Lady Pirates beat the Lady Sailors 39-10 in the opener, then the Perrydale Boys came out on top 79-49 in the nightcap. The Sailors return to Mountain West League action tomorrow night at home against Alsea.
Pac 12 hoops
Tyler Dorsey scored 23 points, including a half-dozen shots from outside the arc, and number 13 Oregon snapped Arizona’s 15-game winning streak with a decisive 85-58 Pac-12 basketball victory over the fifth ranked Wildcats Saturday afternoon.
The win moves the Ducks back into a share of the conference lead with the Wildcats.
In Corvallis, Arizona State forced the Beavers into 18-turnovers and downed Oregon State 81-68 Saturday afternoon. It was the Beavers’ 11th straight loss.
