Military Museum Adds Osborne to Board

The Oregon coast Military Museum has added Banner Bank Vice President Dee Osborne to its board of directors.  Osborne currently serves on the board of the Florence Area Chamber of commerce and the Peace Health Peace Harbor Foundation.  Executive Director Cal Applebee says that Osborne will bring business as well as common sense to the board.  Osborne says her father served in the Korean war and she has a son that is a marine as well as two nephews.  She sees the Oregon Coast Military Museum as an important entity and wants to see it sustained.

Florence Hopes to Reach Top 5

The announcement for the top 5 businesses in the Small Business Revolution will be announced on February 13th.  Ellen Huntington, one of the chief catalysts for Florence moving forward, says the job is not done.  The way that Florence will make the selection is through voting.  The Small Business Revolution has a website set up with information and details on how to vote. https://www.deluxe.com/small-business-revolution/

Groundbreaking Ceremony

There will be a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction on the City Hall remodel.  Tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. officials and staff will gather at the entrance to the facility and are inviting the public to join them as they officially kick off the construction.  The estimated cost of the remodel is just over 2.9 million dollars and will take several months to complete.

Enforcement Increase for Super Bowl Sunday

A reminder: there will be an increased awareness by the Florence Police Department this weekend as they work to keep the streets safe from impaired drivers.  A grant that will pay for overtime and increased patrols has been given to communities and on Super Bowl Sunday there will be added enforcement on the streets of Florence.  Remember don’t drink and drive.

Levy Spending in Line With Purpose

An independent audit of the use of funds for the Lane County Jail has returned with an affirmation that the monies appropriated through a levy that was imposed in 2013 and reaffirmed in 2017 are being properly spent.  The levy funds have been used to restore local jail beds and fund critical youth treatment facilities.  There are currently 317 beds available and that is up from 125 in 2013.  In February there will be another increase to 367 beds.

SVFR Responds to Chimney Fire

Last evening around 9:30 Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue responded to a chimney fire on Levage Road north of town.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire with limited damage to the structure.  Chief Jim Langborg with SVFR said the residents were able to stay in the home overnight and the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
