Strong Spring Storm Heading to Florence

A strong spring storm is expected to move through our area overnight tonight bringing high winds and rain.  The national weather service has issued a high wind warning that will bring wind gusts in excess of 70 miles per hour.  The Warning is set to begin at 4am tomorrow morning and continue through 8 pm on Saturday evening.  With the wind and the rain the possibility for thunderstorms producing hail and lightning will also be in the forecast.  High winds can also cause power outages and spread debris.  Drivers and pedestrians should watch for limbs and trees that may fall into the roadways and across sidewalks.  This is also a very dangerous time to be on the beaches with the possibility of sneaker waves and debris.  Beachwalkers are encouraged not to walk on the jetty or get close to the water and stay alert.  The strongest winds are expected to be from daybreak tomorrow through early afternoon.

Hazardous Waste Roundup

Next Friday and Saturday is the Florence Hazardous waste Roundup at the Lane County Transfer Station.  The free event will be from noon until 5 pm on Friday and 8 am and 2 pm on Saturday.  Items like Paint, household cleaners, lawn and garden chemicals, car care products, arts and crafts products, pool chemicals, fluorescent lamps and other household hazardous waste are accepted. Open House for Boys and Girls Club

The boys and girls club of western lane county will be holding an open house on Monday evening beginning at 5 pm.  Executive Director, Chuck Trent says that this is an opportunity for the community to see the facility and learn more about the benefits of having this club in Florence.

201:  “It’s a really special celebration it offers the general public and all of our donors, our parents that have kids in the club, we want the community to come out and see what we do on a day to day basis.”

Senator Arnie Roblan will be present at the event as well as Lane County Commissioner Jay Bozevich. The event is from 5-7 pm on Monday.  The Boys and Girls Club is located at 1501 Airport Road.
