Vikings Take Douglas in Double Header

Junior Alexis Smith continues her hitting clinic with the Siuslaw Softball team.  In game one of the double header against Douglas on Friday, Smith had 6 RBI’s on 2 singles a double and a triple.  Senior Ariel Rosinbaum also went 3-4 at the plate with 2 RBI’s on 2 singles and a triple.  And Junior Calin Mason went 3-4 with 3 ribbies on 3 singles.  In all the Lady Vikings had 25 hits and defeated the Trojans 21-5.

In the second game some errors could have been the downfall for the Vikings, but perseverance and waiting on the best pitch prevailed.  Douglas walked 11 Siuslaw batters.  Vikings were victorious 15-5.  The Vikings are in third place in the league.

Viking Baseball

For the Viking Boys, coach Tom Shinn says they are playing better baseball defensively, although the bats are not as hot as they need to be.  In the first of two games on Friday Siuslaw held the Trojans to 4 runs but could only muster 2 of their own on offense.  Gabe Simington pitched 6 innings with 12 strikeouts in a losing effort. Game two was a little tougher for the Vikings as Douglas seemed to hit at will racking up 13 runs on 13 hits.  Senior Evan Teter gave up 9 runs on 10 hits.  Coach Shinn says it was the result of a couple of errors that allowed the inning to go long and for Douglas to pile on the runs.  The Trojans blanked Siuslaw 12-zip.
