ODOT Work Continues

The Oregon Department of Transportation is making headway on three crosswalk projects in Florence.  No work is expected to be done during memorial day, but overnight crews will be back on the streets.  Crews have already begun pouring cement on one side of two of the locations on highway 101 and the third site is expected to pour early this week.  In addition crews will also return to work on the Siuslaw River Bridge tomorrow.  ODOT says the project is ahead of schedule on that project that was initially scheduled for completion in March of 2019.

Remembering the Fallen

Memorial Day honors the fallen soldiers that paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country.  While many people use it as a day of bbq’s and outdoor activities, many will spend the day at services and events surrounding honoring the service of those who died.  Traditional laying of the wreaths will be observed in Florence at the Veteran’s Memorial Park at 1pm today.

Band and Choral Concerts

Monday June 4th the Siuslaw School district will present a band concert at the Florence Event Center.  The event will take place from 7-9 pm and is free and open to the public.  The following evening, June 5th will be the School District Spring concert at 7 which is also free.  Choirs from both the high school and middle school will be featured, singing a variety of repertoire, including solo work, classical selections, pop and show tunes, and of course pieces from this year’s festival catalog
