Banner Bank Adds to Firework Display

A $5000.00 contribution by banner bank has assured a big bang celebration for the 4th of July.  Last year the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce increased the size if the firework show and this donation will ensure that this years show will be equal in size.  This year the fireworks will be coordinated with patriotic music provided by coast radio.  Other events are being planned for the day along with the traditional pie and watermelon eating contests.  Those details will be released as more information is provided by the Chamber.  A reminder that personal fireworks are not permitted on public properties within the vicinity of Old Town or the Port of Siuslaw including public streets and right of ways throughout the community, including beaches, dunes, and forests.

Slide Repair Closes Mapleton’s Bernhardt Creed Road

A section of Bernhardt Creek Road in Mapleton will be closed to traffic.  The section at Point Terrace at milepost 1.8 will close next week from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm for the entire week as crews from Lane County will be repairing and reinforcing an area that was the subject of a landslide.  Lane county is reporting that there is no alternate route of travel available.  Reinforcement of the slide area and repairing of the roadway is expected to be completed by Saturday, June 23rd and will reopen to traffic at 4:30 that afternoon.

Travel Alert: Bridge Closure

Good weather expected this weekend means that Coos Bay will continue with the work on the Isthmus Slough bridge.  The closure was postponed until this week due to rain.  The bridge will be closed to all traffic from 8pm on Friday until 6am Monday morning.  A nine mile detour has been established and signs will be posted for motorists.  Pedestrian traffic will be allowed on the bridge but ODOT says there may be delays.  This closure is part of a 9 million dollar project that will include repair and resurfacing of the deck, modify deck drains, replace the wooden sidewalks and paint.  Two more closures are expected to take place this summer.
