OCHS Hires Shelter Manager; ODFW Goes Online; Bond Advisory Meeting; Gas Prices Remain Steady; ODOT Holds Special Transit Advisory Meeting

OCHS Hires Shelter Manager

The Oregon Coast Humane Society has announced that they have hired a shelter manager.  OCHS Board President Shauna Robbers says they have chosen Maria Lewis from Plano, Texas to handle operations at the facility.  Lewis is en route from Texas and is expected to be at the helm by next week.  The board is moving forward after the resignation of two new board members last month including the quick exit of former Board President Jack Hanigan and the departure of interim executive director Barbara Butzer.  There is still no word on when the board will choose an executive director.

ODFW Goes Online

This year beginning, in December when licenses for hunting and fishing go on sale, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will add a new option.  Beginning December 1st you will be able to order your licenses online through their new electronic license system.  Under the new system you’ll be able to print your license at home or download it to your phone. And traditionalists will still be able to buy their license at an ODFW office or participating vendors

Bond Advisory Meeting

The Siuslaw School District will be holding another School bond advisory committee meeting tomorrow beginning at 5:30 at the Siuslaw School District offices at 2111 Oak Street.  The committee is continuing to discuss its outreach program to the public and work towards scheduling meetings to individual groups that request information on the bond.  The public is encouraged to attend the meeting to get the latest information on the 108 million dollar bond for new school construction.

Gas Prices Remain Steady

Gas prices remain flat for Florence as the rest of the nation sees a slight dip in prices.  The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Florence is steady at 2.96 a gallon.  The state average is still topping off at $3.26 a gallon.  Demand for fuel has dropped over the past week and inventories are steadily going up.  According to AAA Oregon reserves are up for the first time this summer with an additional 3 million barrels added to reserves.

ODOT Holds Special Transit Advisory Meeting

The Oregon Department of Transportation is holding a special Transit Advisory committee meeting today at the Florence event center.  ODOT will be seeking public comment on operations and discuss their plans for connecting Florence to Yachats and Eugene.  The meeting will begin at 1:30.
