Accident Sends 2 to Riverbend

A report of a motorcycle accident last night at 9:36 pm in Mapleton brought out medics from Western Lane Ambulance.  The accident involved a motorcycle with 2 riders  it occurred near the Mapleton Food and Fuel.  Traffic westbound was blocked as police and emergency vehicles assisted the injured.  Initially life flight was requested but there was no air support available.  According to reports the two patients were rushed to Riverbend hospital The condition of the injured is not known at this time.

OSP Looking for Help Identifying Poacher

Oregon State Police is asking for the public’s help in locating a poacher.  Friday evening OSP Fish and Wildlife Troopers responded to a report that a 6-point bull elk had been shot with an arrow and left to waste in the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area, outside of Reedsport.  The investigation revealed the elk had been killed around 7:00 PM that evening, and no effort was made by the person(s) involved to harvest any of the meat from the animal.  The public is urged to call Oregon State Police Trooper Brian Koell through the Turn in Poachers (TIP) hotline at 1-800-452-7888

First Day of School Wednesday

Tomorrow is the first day of school and that means buses will be back on the roadways.  The Florence Police department urges motorists to be cautious and observe all laws regarding stopped buses and crosswalks.  The first few days of school is a readjustment period for students and drivers and patience and alertness goes a long way for safety.  FPD will be out in force monitoring school bus routes looking for drivers that do not follow the law.

Rod and Rhodys Weekend

This weekend is the annual Rods and Rhodies Invitational Car Show and the Annual community wide Garage Sale.  The Friday pre show stand around will be held in the Port of Siuslaw Parking lot instead of Three Rivers Casino this year.  The event will be from 12:30 until 7pm with hamburgers and hot dogs from the Florence Lion’s Club.  Coast Radio will be broadcasting live from the event beginning at 3 pm.  Then on Saturday and Sunday the vehicles will line the streets of Old Town.  Driving traffic will be closed on Bay Street.
