Viking’s Cross Country-Saxon Invite

Junior Kiger Johnson finished in the top 40 of 130 cross country runners on Saturday at the Saxon Invite in Salem.  The junior runner’s time was 17:24.65.  Junior Brendon Jenson finished 5 places behind Johnson with a time of 17:36.67.  In the men’s Junior Varsity 5000m, sophomore Ryan Jennings finished 15th with a time of 18:46.78.

For the lady Viks, junior Hannah Rannow finished 11th with a time of 19:33.26, and sophomore Brea Blankenship finished 24th with a time of 20:22.91

Vikings vs. Warriors

On Friday night the Siuslaw Vikings hosted Philomath in a non league game.  The Vikings stood toe to toe with the Warriors for most of the first half, then 3 quick scores put the Vikings in a hole.  Coach Chad Smith said even though the score didn’t show it there was a difference in this week’s game

“Obviously there was improvement from week one and we just want to keep improving and next week against Newport, first away game, and hopefully some of those first couple game jitters are out of the way and we come out and play mistake free football.

The last possession of the game, the Vikings put together a scoring drive led by sophomore Elijah Blankenship who scored on a one yard push and then kept the ball again for the 2 point conversion.  Vikings were defeated by the Warriors 33-8

Sailors vs. Irish

The Mapleton Sailors were on the road Friday night to take on the Irish of Riddle.  JJ Neece had 20 rushes for 258 yards and completed 4 for 7 passing with three touchdowns in the losing effort.  He also had 15 tackles on defense.  Evan Moso had 7 rushes for 54 yards, 4 catches for 93 yards and 5 touchdowns.  The Irish did finish 8 points ahead of the sailors, 52-44.

Ducks Topple PSU

In Eugene on Saturday is was a 62-14 route of Portland State for the Ducks who begin their season 2-0.  Justin Herbert threw 4 touchdown passes in the first half before taking the rest of the game off.

Beavers Cruise Against Southern Utah

The Beavers cruised to a win on Saturday as they faced Southern Utah. The Beavers scored 48 points at home to give Jonathan Smith his first win as a head coach.  Jamar Jefferson rushed for the third most yards in a single game for the Beavers with 239 yards and four touchdowns.  The Beavers were out 41-0 before Southern Utah had a late second quarter score ending the first half 41-7.  Final score 48-25

Ems Take Game One

The Eugene Emeralds had their first win in the 5 game NWL championship series against Spokane.  The Ems won 3-2.  Due to a scheduling conflict the ems will host the complete 5 game series at PK Park.  Game two is this evening at 7:05.
