Mapleton Rolls Over Pirates; Vikings Fall to Newport; Ducks Win in Lackluster Fashion; Beavers Miss Comeback Opportunity; Cross Country Performs Well at Northwest Classic

Mapleton Rolls Over Pirates

Friday night the Mapleton Sailors were on the field against the Glendale Pirates for 8 man football.  The Sailors let loose on the Pirates scoring 66 points to Glendale’s 14. Cody Soverns rushed for 101 yards on 4 carries with one catch for 55 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1- 2 point conversion.  Most of the Sailor offense was on the ground, but sophomore JJ Neece was 2 for 3 passing for 147 yards with 5 touchdowns – 3 rushing and 2 passing.  The defense featured junior Nate Neece with 7 tackles a sack and a fumble recovery.  JJ Neece has 12 tackles and a fumble recovery and senior Evan Moso had 8 tackles and a sack.

Vikings Fall to Newport

Friday night also saw the Vikings on the field in Newport.  Newport was a tough opponent taking the Vikings down 60-16.

Ducks Win in Lackluster Fashion

Ducks coach Mario Cristobal said his team was out of sync for Saturday’s game.  The Ducks at times looked lack luster while trying to find a rhythm but still managed to come out on top of San Jose State.  QB Justin Herbert did manage to throw 3 touchdown passes on the day.  The Ducks stayed ahead of the Spartans through the entire game winning 35-22.

Beavers Miss Comeback Opportunity

The Beavers were hard at it on Saturday against the Nevada Wolfpack but in the end OSU could not overcome the deficit.  Sophomore Isaiah Hodgins did manage to tie the single game receiving record for the Beavers with 14 catches totaling 200 yards.  QB Connor Blount was 12 for 20 passing for 175 yards and one touchdown.  Final score 37-35 Wolfpack.

Cross Country Performs Well at Northwest Classic

Northwest Classic results from Saturday, junior Hannah Rannow place 5th overall in the women’s 5000 meter race.  Hannah’s time was 19:18.30. Sophomore Brea Blankenship also finished in the top 10 with a time of 20:26.80.  Chloe Madden was 12th with a time of 20:50.70.  in all the ladies combined for a second place overall in the meet.

For the men is was junior Brendon Jensen bringing home a 6th place finish with a time of 16:58.30 and junior Kiger Johnson with a 16th place finish with a time of 17:32.90.  the Viking men combined for a third place finish.
