Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate junior cross country runner Brendon Jensen as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Brendon finished in 5th place in last week’s District Championships with a personal record time in the 5000 meters of 16:35.81. Coach Chris Johnson says his contribution was huge in the tournament. Jensen has been a consistent runner all season. Placing in the top 6 positions 4 out of 7 times this season.
Honorable Mention goes to freshman runner Rylee Colton for her personal record time in the 5000 meter race at the District Championships with a time of 19:50.1
Herbert Nominated for Maxwell Award
Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the Maxwell Award, Maxwell Football Club President Mark Dianno announced on Monday.
Herbert has thrown a touchdown pass in 23 consecutive games, the longest streak in the nation. The 2017 first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American also was named to the final 15 for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award last week.
