Pounding Sets Record

It was an outpouring of generosity on Saturday for the 19th annual Pounding for the Florence Food share.  The Florence community donated 14,572 pounds of food for the local food pantry setting a new record and exceeding the goal set for the year.  Wayne Sharpe spent the morning with the founder of the Pounding Cindy Wobbe and he said the food was rolling in fast.

“It was amazing, we did just over 10 thousand pounds in just 2 hours.” said Wayne Sharpe.

Florence food share trucks hauled off the food as quickly as it came in.  In addition to the food donated, people added over $2000.00 in cash.  Top Hydraulics, a local Florence business also committed to matching the amount of food donated to a cash donation equal to the poundage raised.

$30K For Art Projected

The City of Florence is considering signing a contract for a public arts project on the steps on the northeast side of the Siuslaw River Bridge.  The Public Arts Committee has recommended an agreement with Jessilyn Brinkerhoff to construct a façade and paint the steps.  The amount of the project will be $30,000.  The recommendation will go before the Florence Urban Renewal Committee at their meeting tomorrow evening at the Florence Event Center.  The meeting will begin at 5:30.

The meeting will also contain an update of the revision Florence construction project.  Bids are in for the project and project manager Megan Messmer will be providing information on where the project stands and what the next steps are in the process.

ODOT Bridge Schedule

The Oregon Department of Transportation continues to provide updates on the progress of the Siuslaw River Bridge.  Work is still on schedule for a March completion, but workers will get a break for the Thanksgiving holiday as no construction is scheduled from Wednesday through Friday.

Local Artist Shoots Music Video

The young and the young at heart came out Saturday to be part of a music video shoot in Old Town.  Local singer Nyah Vollmar wrote and produced a song that will premiere in February along with the video.  Members of the C.R.O.W. dance team participated in the event along with other residents of Florence.  Vollmar has been singing since around the state and performing the Star Spangled Banner for the Ducks as well as the Portland Trailblazers.
