Bridge Speed Zone Announced; Public Arts Committee Seeking Public Comment; Ocean Quakes Continue; Traveling Memorial Wall in Florence This Weekend; Lighthouse Open House

Bridge Speed Zone Announced

The construction on the Siuslaw River bridge is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2019, but that will not be the end of work on the bridge.  The Oregon Department of Transportation is scheduled to replace the deck of the bridge in 2021.  However, to protect the current deck from further damage while awaiting repairs ODOT has established a temporary speed zone from 50 feet on the north side of the bridge to Glenada Road on the south side of the bridge.  The 30 mile per hour limit is effective not and will be valid until December 31st of 2022

Public Arts Committee Seeking Public Comment

Monday morning at 10 am the Public Arts Committee will meet to review the final selections on the mural project scheduled for the Central Lincoln PUD maintenance building on highway 126 at Quince Street.  They are looking for public input at this time.  The final three artist’s proposals will be available online for viewing tomorrow at ci.florence.or.us.  The Public Arts Committee meeting will be located at the Florence Event Center.

Ocean Quakes Continue

They cause no danger to the coast, but small earthquakes are a continuing issue off the coast of Oregon.  The latest a 3.2 magnitude quake 266 nautical miles off the coast of Bandon was located at a depth of 6.2 miles.  A similar quake of 4.2 magnitude hit on November 30th.  The USGS says these quakes are a regular occurrence along the two fault lines that run off the coast and are not associated with the Cascadia Subduction zone.

Traveling Memorial Wall in Florence This Weekend

The Oregon Memorial Traveling Wall which honors Oregon’s service men and women who have sacrificed for our freedom will be displayed tomorrow through Sunday at the Oregon Coast Military Museum.  The display will be open from noon until four each day and there is no charge.  The Museum is located on Kingwood street.

Lighthouse Open House

Heceta Lighthouse is hosting their 23rd annual Victorian Christmas at the Heceta Lighthouse B&B.  the open house will be held on December 8th and 9th and again on December 15th and 16th from 4-7 pm.
