Athlete of the Week: Matthew Horrillo

The Sports Club, The Siuslaw News and Coast Radio Sports congratulate junior wrestler Matthew Horrillo as this week’s Athlete of the Week.  Matthew took 4th place in last weekend’s Grants Pass Winter Kickoff Classic.  The competition included wrestlers from 42 schools.  Coach Neil Wartnik says Matthew’s match for 4th place was one of the most exciting matches he has ever witnessed as Horrillo went to 3 overtimes and a 30 secocnd Ultimate Overtime to defeat his opponent.

Honorable Mention goes to freshman basketball player Brayden Thornton who led all Siuslaw scorers in Friday night’s matchup against Pleasant Hill scoring 16 points

Beavers Defeat Pepperdine

The Oregon State Beavers had a fairly easy time at home last night in gill coliseum as the took on Pepperdine.  Tres Tinkle has 21 points, seven assists and five steals in the 82-67 win

Tonights Sports Schedule:

Collegiate basketball tonight pits Oregon against Florida A&M at 3 o’clock.  Pregame on KCST is at 2:30.

 

Siuslaw returns to the hardwood tonight for non league basketball double header play.  Pregame on KCST follow the close of the Oregon basketball game.  Siuslaw and Stayton tip off on Glenn Butler court at 5:30 for game one, the late game follows at 7 o’clock over Coast Radio Sports.

 

Mapleton takes on the Crow Cougars in Mountain West League double header action.  Game one of this evening’s match up tips off at 5:30 in Mapleton.

 

Siuslaw is on the mats in North Bend for the Central Coast Wrestling Classic.  Teams competing in the fray include the hosting Bulldogs, Reedsport and Siuslaw.

 

Women’s hoops tonight, Oregon will take on Mississippi State at 7 o’clock in Eugene.
