Athlete Of The Week
The Sports Club, The Siuslaw News, and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior Siuslaw men’s basketball player Dylan Wynn as this week’s athlete of the week. Dylan scored 24 points in the win against Reedsport last Thursday including 4 3 pointers leading the Vikings to a 58-45 win
Honorable Mention goes to Mapleton Sailor JJ Neece who led the Sailors to a 49-42 win over Crosshill Christian scoring 16 points with 6 steals and 3 blocks.
All Posts2018 in Review
The year in review for sports included the hiring of a new head football coach. In late April of 2018 Siuslaw Athletic Director Chris Johnson announced that they entered into an agreement with Chad Smith. Smith previously coached at Seaside and LaGrande high schools. Siuslaw went winless in 2018 as they entered a new special district.
Smith was also picked to head up the Girls Varsity Basketball team.
Tom Shinn had his first season with the Viking Baseball team. The team struggled during the season only winning 4 out of 23 games.
Senior Viking wrestler Ricky Huff went to the state championships in the spring. The 120 pound wrestler came in second in the state losing to Crook County’s Pacer Quince.
Ryan Rendon-Padilla won the state championship in the Javelin with a distance of 55.36 meters and Hannaw Rannow was crowned state champion in the 800 meters with a record time of 2:18.54
